MINNESOTA SESQUICENTENNIAL GRANTS AVAILABLE

St. Paul, MN – State Representative John Ward (DFL- Brainerd) is encouraging organizations in the area to apply for grant money that is available to help celebrate our state's 150 years of statehood.
The Minnesota Sesquicentennial Commission, created by the 2005 state legislature, is working to commemorate our state's history and celebrate its future. The Commission was appropriated $325 thousand to be given as grants to communities for use toward local celebrations, commemorations or enduring projects.
According to Ward, there are two kinds of grants available. The first are the micro grants of up to $1,000 for activities or events to promote the Sesquicentennial.
The second type are legacy grants, with awards between $5,000 and $7,5000. These larger grants are being given to entities conducting projects that create "Sesquicentennial legacies". These are enduring creations or investments that will be remembered and useful into succeeding generations.
"I've been informed that our district is currently not designated for either of these grants," said Ward. "With one round of applications remaining, I hope some organization will step forward and apply so our communities can be part of our state's 150th birthday celebration."
Applications for the micro grants are due December 1st, 2007, and the legacy grant applications are due on November 16th. You can find out more about these grants at www.mn150years.org/grants.html.
