ST. PAUL, MN – State Representative John Ward (DFL-Brainerd) was pleased to learn last week that the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency Board recently approved an award for a Brainerd housing project.
According to Ward, $350 thousand has been awarded to the Region Five Development Commission to be used for interim construction financing to create new homes in Brainerd's Oaks development. Partners include the Minnesota Department of Corrections Institutional Community Work Crews, the Brainerd Housing and Redevelopment Authority and a local licensed general contractor. The program will build five homes in two years that will be sold to families with incomes below 80% of area median homes.
"This money will be very beneficial in helping our city build new homes for well-deserving families," said Ward. "We all benefit from projects such as this."
Ward said the competition for this funding was very strong, with 24 out of 43 proposals receiving funding. Nearly 80% of the assisted units are located in Greater Minnesota.
If have questions about this funding or any other issue, you can contact Rep. Ward at (651) 296- 4333, or 1-800-683-4205, by mail at 533 State Office Building, 100 Martin Luther King Blvd., St. Paul, MN 55155 or via e-mail at rep.john.ward@house.mn.
