ST. PAUL, MN – State Representative John Ward welcomed the news that funding for several local projects made the cut in the House Capital Investment Bill.
A proposal by Rep. Ward for Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area was approved, allocating $125 thousand to add trails to the area.
"This funding gets us another $700 thousand in matching funds from the federal government and the National Trail Bike Association," said Ward. "I'm very appreciative of the support the proposal got from the members of the Capital Investment Committee."
In addition, Central Lakes College in Brainerd was earmarked for $347 thousand to replace an obsolete fire alarm system.
"The main bonding bill will be passed in the 2008 session," said Ward. "That makes anything we get included in this bill even more significant."
The overall bonding bill has $135 million in general obligation bonds; $120 million in General Fund spending and $33.3 million in Trunk Highway bonds. It is expected to be passed on the House floor sometime this week.
