Representative-Elect John Ward, Brainerd, was appointed to four key House committees as he begins his first term as State Representative for District 12A.
Ward will be serving on the E-12 Education, Early Childhood Learning Finance Division and Education Finance and Economic Competitiveness Finance Committees. He was also appointed Vice-Chair of the State Government Finance Committee.
Ward, who was an educator for over 30 years, said he is pleased with his committee assignments and the heavy emphasis on education.
"I ran for office with education as my number one priority," said Ward. "Over the past few years, our state has backed away from its commitment to our students.
I am hopeful we can once again return to our rich tradition of helping all of our students reach their highest potential."
Rep.- Elect Ward said he is also looking forward to his appointment as Vice-Chair of the State Government Finance Committee.
"The role of this committee is to help set some overall budget target numbers for the state, and to make sure the budgets coming out of individual committees fit together," said Ward. "I look forward to working with the Chair, Rep. Phyliss Kahn, and other members of this committee, to develop the 'big picture' of our state budget."
Rep.-Elect Ward will begin his committee assignments when the State Legislature convenes on January 3rd, 2007.
