As part of his duties as Wal-Mart's State Teacher of the Year for 2006, State Representative-Elect John Ward (DFL-Brainerd) will be pulling double-duty as a bell ringer for both the Salvation Army and the Shriners Hospital.
Rep. Ward will be ringing the traditional bell to raise money for the Salvation Army in front of Wal-Mart on Sunday, December 17th from noon to 1 p.m. Wal-Mart will be matching the funds he raises during that time up to $100, bringing the total amount he can raise for the Salvation Army to $200.
In addition, Wal-Mart has agreed to add another $200 for his efforts for the Shriners Hospital, a cause near and dear to Rep.-elect Ward.
"In addition to the honor of being selected teacher of the year, Wal-Mart has been very generous with their donations to these worthy Minnesota causes," said Ward. "Every year, I raise money for the Shriners Hospital; when I approached Wal-Mart with my request to add them to my efforts, they graciously agreed to donate to them, also."
To add to the festivity of the season, Rep.-elect Ward will be donning his Santa Claus suit while bell-ringing.
"I hope people will celebrate the holiday season by joining me at Wal-Mart to donate to these worthy causes," said Ward.
