St. Paul, MN – Speaker of the House Margaret Anderson Kelliher has appointed Representative Tim Faust to the Agriculture and Veterans Conference Committee. The committee will begin meeting this week to work out the differences between the House and Senate Agriculture and Veterans bills.
"Since he was first elected, Rep. Faust had demonstrated strong leadership and understanding of the issues important to Minnesota’s farmers and veterans," said Speaker Kelliher. "Tim knows important our agricultural economy is to Minnesota’s economic recovery and he will be a strong advocate for our farmers and veterans in negotiating the final agriculture and veterans’ bill.”
“In this difficult economy, it’s critical to preserve our strong agricultural economy and services for our veterans,” said Faust. “I am honored to have this opportunity to shape policies that will support our farmers and veterans through these challenging times.”
Despite facing targeted spending reductions of 6% to help address the $6.4 state budget deficit, the final House bill actually increases both the Veterans’ Affairs and Veterans’ Homes budgets by over 3%, and the Military Affairs budget by 7.7%. The bill also makes strategic cuts to agriculture that protects jobs, preserves critical programs and looks to the future with continued investment in biofuels and green jobs.
