To the Editor:
I want to take the opportunity to thank everyone at Hinckley Elementary for recently welcoming the House K-12 Education Committee to your school. The committee got a thorough look at the St. Croix River Education District's literacy intervention program. I was proud to have brought the committee to District 8B and to the programs that work and the amazing teachers we have.
The Committee is now taking up legislation to provide the district with $900,000 for the next two years to help bring their intervention program statewide. Finding programs and ideas from all over the state is one of the main reasons we take the committee on the road.
It's also good to get the committee to travel. While all our hearings in St. Paul are open to the public, it's often times tough for people to make it. By getting out we involve more Minnesotans and get to learn more about our diverse state. The more public and involved we are, the more responsive we'll be.
To ensure our schools are the best in the country, we'll need an education budget that works for all of Minnesota's kids. That's why we've visited schools in both Greater Minnesota and the Twin Cities. The committee is getting a good look at what works and where there are needs from schools across the state. Now that the budget forecasts are in, we're going to dig in, roll up our sleeves and do what's best for all of our children and our schools.
Sincerely,
Rep. Tim Faust
