ST. PAUL - State Representative Tim Faust is urging his constituents to share their stories about how they've dealt with rising property taxes. House Democrats have created a 1-800 comment line and a website designed to provide an avenue for taxpayers to have a say in how the House addresses rapidly rising property taxes.
"Everyone I talk to back home tells me that high property tax increases are one of their top concerns," Faust said. "It's only right to take the public's comments and ideas into account when we're putting together a property tax relief package."
Residents can offer their input in two ways. They can call Minnesota's Property Tax Comment line at 1-800-551-5520 or log onto Minnesota's Property Tax Comment website at www.house.mn/dfl/ptax/propertytaxproject.html.
"Whether it was cuts in state education funding, cuts in aid to cities and counties or changes in the property tax laws; we've seen property taxes go up by nearly $1.5 billion in the last four years," Faust added. "Since there's obviously no one-size fits all solution, we need Minnesotans' help to find broad, community-based solutions."
Both the hotline and website are up and running to take comments and ideas.
