ST. PAUL, MN. - Yesterday, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) added Itasca and Cass Counties to the major disaster declaration for last month’s Northeast Minnesota flood and storms.
State Representative Tom Anzelc issued the following statement:
“It took a lot of hard work from local officials to ensure that Itasca County was added to the FEMA disaster declaration for public assistance. County emergency management personnel have done an excellent job conveying damage information and it is great news that Itasca County is eligible for federal aid to damaged public infrastructure. Our homeowners and business owners also need help to recover from damage sustained to property. I strongly support Governor Dayton’s appeal of FEMA’s denial of federal assistance to homeowners and businesses.
As it is determined what FEMA will cover, I will continue working with the Governor and state agencies on Special Session disaster recovery legislation for state assistance especially for individual residents and businesses.”
A Special Session is expected to be called by Governor Dayton in the coming weeks.
