State Representative Tom Anzelc (DFL – Balsam Township) is thrilled with the recent announcement that Minnesota Power is planning a major environmental retrofit at the Boswell Energy Center #4 generating unit in Cohasset. The project means more new jobs in Itasca County that will strengthen Northern Minnesota’s economy.
“Minnesota Power intends to invest $350 million to reduce emissions of mercury, particulates and sulfur dioxide at the newest and largest Boswell unit. The project will create a large number of jobs -- as many as 500 workers will be needed in the skilled trades," stated Rep. Anzelc.
The Boswell 4 project will increase overall emission reduction to around 85 percent by using cost-effective technology. This major environmental retrofit will improve the environment by reducing harmful emissions, extend reliability of services, and allow for affordable electric power for customers for years to come.
“I give Minnesota Power a lot of credit for moving forward with Unit 4 and for earlier improvements to Unit 3. I am most pleased with the high number of good paying jobs the project will create and their economic impact. It is really a win-win for economic prosperity in the region and stewardship of the environment,” concluded Anzelc.
