(St. Paul, MN) – Tonight, State Representative Tom Anzelc (DFL- Balsam Township) successfully amended an environment regulation bill during a House Floor session to shorten the environmental review process for Magnetation, a company that wants to build a new $300 million iron pellet plant in Itasca County.
By speeding up the review process the company will be able to begin construction by the end of 2012. The amendment allows Magnetation to meet a tight construction timeline and it means Minnesota has the edge in the competition for the new plant with Indiana and Superior, Wisconsin.
“This is for more good jobs on the Iron Range," stated State Representative Tom Anzelc. “By shortening the environmental review period, the company can make a decision about where to build their new pellet plant. It gives Minnesota a big advantage.”
“I would like to thank the Governor, PCA, DNR and our united House Iron Range delegation -- Representatives Rukavina, Dill, and Melin -- for their strong support. This was a great effort that took lots of negotiations but I believe we have a winning strategy and are positioned really well for landing 150 new jobs. I am very pleased,” said Anzelc.
