Governor Mark Dayton gave his State of the State message to a joint session of the Minnesota State Legislature this evening.
"I was pleased to hear that Governor Dayton shares the goal of making job creation and economic development the highest priority in 2012. Governor Dayton's message and innovative ideas for getting 168,000 unemployed and under-employed Minnesotans back to work further solidified my hopes for achieving progress for our state this session. His support for our community colleges and their role in developing our workforce was particularly impressive.
The Governor offered a concrete jobs creation package full of proven strategies to train and educate Minnesota's workforce for the new economy. I support his plan to expand the successful FastTRAC initiative, which integrates basic skills education with career specific training, and I am a strong proponent of the Governor's plan to invest in public infrastructure. A targeted, smart bonding package that will put thousands of Minnesotans back to work while building the infrastructure our businesses need to succeed over the long-term.
The Legislature should act quickly on the Governor's proposals. Jobs are what Minnesotans care about and it’s what we as legislators should care about. The initiatives outlined by Governor Dayton tonight can position Minnesota for long-term economic success and build a better Minnesota for our children and grandchildren.
I look forward to working with the Governor and my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for all the people of our great state."
