ST. PAUL – Rep. Tom Anzelc (DFL – Balsam Township) took the oath of office today at the State Capitol, officially marking the beginning of his 3rd term as the State Representative for District 3A.
“It’s an honor to continue serving the great people I represent in Koochiching, Lake of the Woods and Itasca County," said Anzelc. “Creating jobs, supporting public education, and fighting for working will be my top priorities during the session.”
Anzelc said he looked forward to working with incoming Governor Mark Dayton, especially on ways to create jobs.
“Our last DFL Governor, Rudy Perpich used to say the three most important issues were jobs, jobs and jobs,” said Anzelc. “I am ready to get work with our new DFL Governor Mark Dayton on this important issue of our time. If we want Minnesota to be great again we have to get people back to work all across the state.”
Along with a new Governor come new Republican majorities in the State Legislature. Anzelc said in the minority he would maintain his priorities and principles, working toward fair solutions that support working families.
“It’s more important than ever we set a budget that doesn’t unfairly harm working families who have paid enough – that means no property tax increases, college tuition hikes, and K-12 cuts that increase class sizes,” said Anzelc. “I hope we can reach a balanced budget that truly balances the sacrifices. I will work to hold the new Republican majority accountable for that kind of a budget.”
Anzelc will serve on three key committees: Education Finance, Commerce and Regulatory Reform and Veterans Services. Anzelc encouraged the people of District 3A to contact him throughout the session.
“I’m here at the State Capitol to be your voice,” said Anzelc. “Never hesitate to contact me with your ideas and input.” said Anzelc.
