ST. PAUL – Rep. Loren Solberg (DFL-), Rep. Tom Anzelc (DFL – Balsam Township) and Sen. Tom Saxhaug applauded passage of the Capital Investment bill on Wednesday, saying that it will create thousands of jobs in Northern Minnesota and throughout the state. With agreement between the House and Senate, the bill will now be sent to the Governor for his signature before becoming law. The bill is a significant victory for the Iron Range and Northern Minnesota, with both the Minnesota Steel project in Nashwauk and the Canisteo Mine Pit Overflow project in Bovey included in the final bill.

Anzelc said the project would give a needed economic boost to the Western Mesabi region.
"We need more good paying jobs in Northern Minnesota and the projects in this bill makes those jobs a reality," said Anzelc. "We create jobs right away and also create permanent jobs for the future so generations to come can look forward to good paying work for years to come."
The final bill includes $28 million to fund infrastructure for the Minnesota Steel projects. In total, the project is expected to create 2 thousand construction jobs, as well as over 700 permanent, full-time jobs.

The Canisteo Mine Pit Overflow project received $3.5 million in funding in the final bill. Anzelc said the funding provides the needed resources to address a major safety risk in Bovey.
"Not much more can be said about our need to dewater the Canisteo Mine Pit, its time to get to work," said Anzelc. "The necessary funding is included in this bill to finally fix a significant safety risk for the people of Bovey."
Rep. Loren Solberg was pleased the 21st Century Mineral project was included.

In total, the job-centered bonding bill invests $925 million in funding for critical state infrastructure projects throughout the state and will create an estimated 10,000 good paying jobs. Projects that were ready-to-go were emphasized in order to stimulate job growth more quickly. Saxhaug said that given the economic slowdown, this is the kind of jobs bill Minnesota needs.

Solberg, Anzelc, and Saxhaug hoped the Governor would sign the bill quickly to put Minnesotans back to work.
"There are hardworking Minnesotans all across the state who are ready to work and this bill will give many of them good paying jobs," said Anzelc. "If the Governor is serious about our struggling economy, he will sign this bill as soon as he gets it."
