ANZELC VOTES FOR TAX FAIRNESS
Says Tax Bill is a Step Toward A Progressive Tax System
Representative Tom Anzlec (DFL-Balsam Township) today voted for the House Tax Bill, which provides over a half billion dollars in property tax relief for Minnesota families. Anzelc said the bill will bring tax relief to middle class families that are currently economically strained.
"Unfortunatly, we have a regressive tax system in Minnesota," Anzelc said. "Our system punishes middle class families by making them pay more than 12% of their income in state and local taxes while higher income people pay less than 9%. That just isn't right. I work for all the people of Northern Minnesota but it's our struggling young middle class couples with kids that are my emphasis."
The bill creates tax fairness by reducing the property tax, which disproportionably affects middle class families, while increase income taxes only on the wealthiest Minnesotans. The income tax increase would only affect single filers making more than $226,000 after deductions and married couples making more than $400,000.
Anzelc also noted that the bill provides significant Local Government Aid (LGA), County Aid and School Levy Reduction for Northern Minnesota communities.
"This is the best tax bill I've seen in nearly a decade," he said. "It will help Northern Minnesota families to remain here, educate their kids here, and enjoy our great way of life."
