Representative Tom Anzelc (DFL-Balsam Township) announced today that he has been appointed by House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher to the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board. Anzelc said his appointment to the Board, which seeks to create economic opportunities in Northeastern Minnesota, is an opportunity for him to help create jobs and assist in reclaiming abandoned mining areas for new community and recreational investment.
"My top priority is job creation," Anzelc said. "I look forward to working with the other members of the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board as well as the Commissioner of the Iron Range Resources Agency to advance projects like the Minnesota Steel Mill proposal."
Earlier this session, Anzelc introduced legislation to provide over $30 million in support of the proposed Minnesota Steel Industries Taconite Mine, Pellet Plant and Steel Mill Project in Itasca County near the community of Nashwaak. Anzelc said he would look to support similar projects in the future.
Anzelc joins five State Senators and four State Representatives on the board, along with three members from outside the legislature. In addition to the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board, Anzelc was also appointed to the Legislative Commission on Minnesota-Ontario Matters, which makes recommendations to the Governor on issues relating to Minnesota and Ontario including transportation, natural resources and economic development.
