Governor Tim Pawlenty released his budget proposal today and Rep. Tom Anzelc said he would judge the budget based on how well it addresses the key issues facing the state, particularly education, health care and property taxes.
"I'll give his ideas a fair shake," said Anzelc. "But ultimately we need to make sure that every child gets a great education, that every Minnesotan has access to health care and that property owners see significant and permanent tax relief."
Anzlec added that he is looking forward to working with the Governor as the session moves along.
"We share many of the same goals, especially when it comes to education and health care," Anzlec said. "But there are also areas where we disagree, and we have to work through those differences. While I am happy that the Governor and I are focused on the same issues, I am disappointed that there was no plan for All-Day Kindergarten throughout the state and no plan to guarantee all kids in Minnesota health care."
Anzelc said Minnesotans expect a budget debate that's honest and open.
"Minnesotans set a new direction for our state with the elections last fall," he said. "They want an honest debate over the issues that matter. No gimmicks, borrowing or accounting tricks, they want real solutions."
