After listening to the Governor's annual State of the State Address, Representative Tom Anzelc said he was encouraged by the Governor's focus on the basic issues of education, health care and renewable energy, adding that he's looking forward to working with the Governor on proposals to move Minnesota forward on those issues.
"Certainly there will be a debate on how to make our schools the best in the country, give everyone access to affordable health care, and promote renewable energy, but I look forward to working with the Governor to find common ground," he said. "Half the battle is starting the conversation; it's significant that the Governor is talking about the issues that matter and not issues designed to distract and divide us."
Anzelc said that there were a few areas that the Governor did not address.
"The public schools in Northern Minnesota are confronted with stagnant and declining enrollment and there was nothing in the address which spoke to that," Anzelc said. "We also need to rebuild the partnership between the state and local elected officials."
Anzelc said he's been encouraged by the change in tone at the Capitol since the election.
"People are reaching out," Anzelc said. "A lot of that probably has to do with the results of the last election, but I also think there is an understanding that we're going to sink or swim together."
