REPRESENTATIVES ATKINS AND HANSEN COMMITTED TO ENDING THE BUDGET IMPASSE

State Representatives Rick Hansen and Joe Atkins continue to actively seek a reasonable solution to the budget impasse and an end to partial state government shutdown. Both Representatives Atkins and Hansen are members of a bi-partisan coalition meeting outside of leadership negotiations to bridge the partisan divide and craft a solution. In addition, both have voted six times in six days in favor of a "lights on" bill to end shutdown and against adjourning until the work of special session is complete.

"Rick and I are working with members of both parties to do what our leadership has been unable to do—set aside the partisanship and find reasonable solutions," explained Representative Atkins.

"While the three way negotiations continue, leadership must understand that a budget solution is needed now," Representative Hansen noted. "The people of my district, and all Minnesotans, deserve our commitment to finding a timely, reasonable solution."

In addition to his regular meetings with constituents, Representative Hansen spent his 4th of July at the State Capitol Centennial Celebration with over 8,000 Minnesotans, listening to citizens' ideas and responding to concerns over the shutdown. "As a member of the Legislature, I need to be available and accountable," Hansen said.
