State Rep. Rick Hansen Participates in Disaster Relief Hearing

(SAINT PAUL) — Today, state Representative Rick Hansen (DFL — South St. Paul) participated in a legislative hearing to discuss state aid for the areas affected by flooding and storm damage.

The meeting was open to the public and included a presentation of the Legislative Auditor report: "Helping Communities Recover from Natural Disasters.” Rep. Hansen is focused on securing aid for communities in his district that were hit hard by storm damage.

“This storm caused serious damage much of the state and it’s essential for the legislature to put together a relief package that responds to both the communities and individuals who have been affected,” said Rep. Hansen. “While the terrible damage in Duluth and Northern Minnesota warrants most of the attention, I’m going to do all I can to ensure that folks in my district receive the aid they need as well.

“I was able to get some questions answered — including the fact that Dakota County will receive reimbursements and be included in any funding package — but there are more questions that remain. I'll keep working to get information out to you as this process moves forward and I'm committed to working with our local officials and you to get this right.”

The Special Session has been tentatively scheduled for August 24.
