ST. PAUL, MN With winter just around the corner and temperatures dropping, heating and energy costs will soon be increasing. Many Minnesotans seek to reduce their energy costs through the installation of more energy-efficient appliances, but installation costs are frequently prohibitive.
The state of Minnesota and many utilities offer energy-efficiency rebates to offer incentives and offset costs for customers to make energy-related improvements to their homes and businesses.
I strongly encourage constituents to consider taking advantage of these rebate opportunities," Rep. Rick Hansen (DFL South St. Paul) said. This is a win-win-win for constituents and consumers: these rebates help you save money on home improvements, energy-efficient home improvements are good for the environment and most importantly these improvements help people save money and more than pay for themselves over time.
Among the utilities that offer energy efficiency rebates are Xcel Energy, CenterPoint Energy, and the Dakota Electric Association. The state of Minnesota offers a few rebates: the Commercial Small Wind Rebate Program, the Residential Small Wind Rebate Program, the Solar Hot Water Rebate Program, and the Solar Space Heating Rebate Program.
More information on rebate programs can be found at the Minnesota Department of Commerce website at http://mn.gov/commerce/energy/topics/financial/Rebates-Credits.jsp.
