REP. RICK HANSEN DELIVERS LECTURE TO GROUP IN WEST VIRGINIA — FROM MINNESOTA

(SAINT PAUL) — Today Rep. Rick Hansen delivered a lecture to the “Conservation, Regulation, and Management of Headwater Wetlands" workshop held by the Association of State Wetland Management. The national workshop was held in West Virginia, but Rep. Hansen delivered his remarks from Minnesota, using teleconferencing technology.

Rep. Hansen’s lecture was on the condition of Minnesota’s wetlands and the state’s protection and restoration programs. The teleconferencing system allowed Rep. Hansen to deliver his remarks while workshop attendees could view the presentation slides and ask questions. Rep. Hansen received no compensation.

Rep. Hansen says expanding usage of technology would be a benefit to state governments.

“The use of technology like the teleconferencing used for this lecture could make government more efficient, make information and ideas easier to share, and, most importantly, save taxpayer dollars,” said Rep. Hansen. “Smart uses of new technology will help bring government into the 21st century.”

Jeanne Christie, Executive Director of the Association of State Wetland Management, thanked Rep. Hansen for his speech and added that the technology enhanced his remarks.

“We were delighted to include Representative Hansen's talk in our conference,” Christie said. “Using state of the art technology it felt like he was in the room with us. The participants loved it. It was a wonderful talk.”

The Association of State Wetland Managers is a nonprofit membership organization established in 1983 to promote and enhance protection and management of wetland resources, to promote application of sound science to wetland management efforts and to provide training and education for its members and the public.
