ST. PAUL, MN – State Representative Rick Hansen, District 39A, will attend the 65th annual meeting of the Midwestern Legislative Conference in Toronto, August 8-11.
“I’m looking forward to attending the Midwestern Legislative Conference and meeting with other policymakers to discuss common challenges and issues important to Midwestern states and provinces," said Rep. Hansen. “At the beginning of the conference I will be attending the Great Lakes Legislative Caucus which will provide policymakers in the Great Lakes Basin with a forum to informally discuss their priorities and concerns on some of today’s most important issues and to promote the protection and restoration of our region’s greatest natural resource. The invitation I received to attend the Caucus meeting provides a travel and lodging reimbursement which means no state money will be spent on this trip.”
The Midwestern Legislative Conference, a regional association of the 11 Midwestern state legislatures that fosters regional intergovernmental cooperation in the Midwest, meets annually to address policy issues of importance to the region and pursue collaborative efforts to improve state government. All 1,550 Midwestern state lawmakers and provincial parliamentarians representing the Canadian provinces of Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan, are invited to participate in the conference. This year’s agenda will address specific policy issues: transforming the regional economy, renewable energy incentives, water resource protection, health care reform, water resource protection, and strategies to foster multimodal transportation systems. The keynote speaker, national correspondent James Fallows, will discuss North America’s challenges and opportunities in the global economy (www.csgmidwest.org).
“This conference will provide valuable educational resources, expert forums and networking opportunities that will be useful in making more effective public policies to benefit Midwestern interests,” said Rep. Hansen.
