A measure authored by Representative Rick Hansen to streamline county government passed the House of Representatives today on a voice vote with no audible opposition.
“It’s important that we take practical, common sense steps to simplify government whenever possible," Rep. Hansen said. “County government is responsible for many of the quality of life, nuts-and-bolts aspects of life, and we want it to be as efficient and straight-forward as possible.”
The bill allows counties to decide against setting up a separate board to deal with noxious weed appeals. Instead, the county can decide to allow its board of adjustment to deal with these issues.
“This might seem like a very small change,” Rep. Hansen said, “But every time that we can make a change like this we give government more flexibility and we make it easier for citizens to deal with. We were sent here to be effective and get the job done, and measures like this show that we are.”
