REP. RICK HANSEN HONORS LOCAL HERO

ST. PAUL – State Representative Rick Hansen (DFL – South Saint Paul) and West Saint Paul Mayor John Zanmiller honored local hero, and recently named 2008 Minnesota Police Officer of the Year, Sergeant Ronald Brent Nagel at the State Capitol last week. In May of 2007 Nagel ended an armed robbery attempt at a West Saint Paul bank that put dozens of citizens in danger, saving the life of a fellow officer held hostage at gunpoint.
"The people of Minnesota, and West Saint Paul in particular, are incredibly proud of Sergeant Nagel," said Rep. Hansen. "His brave and selfless actions last spring did more than save the life of a fellow officer – Sergeant Nagel put his life on the line to protect the people of West Saint Paul.
"Sergeant Nagel has devoted his life to preserving peace and safety in our community," continued Hansen. "For his 14 years of service, and his uncommon courage in the line of duty, Sergeant Nagel is a hero in our community."
In recognition of Sergeant Nagel's service and brave action, Rep. Hansen drafted and passed a resolution honoring the local hero. The Minnesota House of Representatives Committee on Rules and Legislative Administration approved the resolution honoring Nagel. It stands on permanent record in the journal of the House and reads:
