REP. RICK HANSEN NAMED CHAIR OF LEGISLATIVE AUDIT COMMISSION

ST. PAUL – Rep. Rick Hansen of South St. Paul was today elected chair of the Legislative Audit Commission. The Legislative Audit Commission (LAC) is a bi-partisan commission that appoints the Legislative Auditor and selects topics for the Program Evaluation Division to review. It also periodically holds hearings to review audit and evaluation reports.

"It is an honor to have been chosen by my peers on the commission to lead this important oversight body," said Rep. Hansen. "After serving on this commission during my first term, I look forward to leading this commission in making state government efficient, responsible, and accountable in carrying out its duties."

The commission is composed of 6 members from the House of Representatives and 6 from the Senate, equally divided between the majority and minority parties. Rep. Hansen has pledged to lead this body with a commitment to collaboration and bipartisanship.

"We will be working to find bipartisan and effective solutions to the issues that all Minnesotans are facing by ensuring an accountable and responsible government," said Hansen. "It is only through a cooperative bipartisan spirit that we as a commission can adequately do our duty. As chair, I will make this a priority for the benefit of all Minnesotans."

Rep. Hansen and his colleagues on the Legislative Audit Commission looking forward to selecting topics for the audit staff to review and following up on past audits to ensure the job gets done.
