ST. PAUL – Rep. Rick Hansen of South St. Paul was recently named chair of the Dakota County Legislative Delegation. The Delegation is a bipartisan coalition of 17 legislators from the House and Senate who work together to develop legislative strategies and solutions in the best interest of the people of Dakota County.
"The Delegation is a great asset to the people of Dakota County," stated Hansen, "I feel honored to have been chosen by my legislative colleagues to lead this important body."
Rep. Hansen plans to lead this body with a commitment to collaboration and bipartisanship.
"We will be working to find bipartisan solutions to the issues that Dakota County residents are facing," said Hansen. "It is only through a cooperative bipartisan spirit that we as a Delegation can adequately meet the many needs of our constituents. As chair, I will make this a priority for the benefit of all citizens of Dakota County."
The current membership of the Dakota County Legislative Delegation totals 17 – a number equal to that of the Minneapolis Delegation and double the size of the Iron Range Delegation. With this considerable size, the legislators of Dakota County wield a lot of power to address the needs of their constituents. With allies in both the House and Senate, the Dakota County agenda will likely get a lot of attention this session.
"Like delegations representing other regions of Minnesota, the Dakota County Delegation will be focused on providing fair funding for schools, reforming health care to meet the needs of Minnesotans, and lowering property taxes," said Hansen. "We will also be focusing on issues of significant importance to Dakota County including transportation, land conservation, and growth."
Rep. Hansen and his colleagues are hopeful for a productive legislative session that will bring lasting results back to Dakota County. Their collective efforts will no doubt get the job done for their citizens.
