Rep. Hansen, Senator Metzen Pleased with Inclusion of Port Crosby in Governor's Bonding Priorities

State Senator Jim Metzen and Representative Rick Hansen have both expressed their thanks to the Governor for including funding for the Port Crosby project in South St. Paul in his 2006 capital investment
recommendations.

"I'm pleased to have the Governor support restoring the Port Crosby site," said Rep. Hansen. "The House and Senate still have to prepare their bonding bills, and Sen. Metzen and I will be working to see that
funding for this project makes it into the final bill passed before Session adjourns. Hopefully, we can secure the funding necessary to move this project forward."

Port Crosby is an 87-acre site along the Mississippi River. Port Crosby was once a construction debris landfill but was never properly closed. With considerable assistance from Sen. Metzen, the City of South St.
Paul acquired the land in 2000 for development as a regional park space. The city has already constructed vehicle and trail access to the site to provide convenient access for the community.

"As a member of the Senate Capital Investment Committee, I worked with Rep. Hansen in the House to include $2.5 million in bonding support for Port Crosby in the 2005 bonding bill," Sen. Metzen said. "This
year's bonding request should get the job done, and I look forward to this being an asset to our region for years to come."

The 2006 bonding funds, if granted, would be used to fill and grade the site, as well as to stabilize the shoreline and close an open drainage ditch. Once remediation is complete, Port Crosby will be ready for
development as a regional park and recreational space for northern Dakota County.
