SIMON REMEMBERS A FAVORITE TEACHER ON TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY
(ST. PAUL) – Honoring National Teacher Appreciation Day today, State Representative Steve Simon released the following statement.
“A very meaningful teacher in my life was Phil Abalan. He taught AP American and European History at Hopkins High School. He was a force of nature in the classroom; intense, passionate, driven, and entertaining (sometimes unintentionally). He was part historian and part motivational speaker. He was a showman with a purpose: to inspire students to demonstrate a high level of understanding about history. Mr. Abalan died very young, of a heart attack, at his desk at Hopkins High School. A generation of people like me will never forget him."
