St. Paul, MN – Legislation authored by State Representative Jeanne Poppe (DFL- Austin) that clarifies the licensing requirements for professionals who work on septic systems passed on the House floor last week with broad bipartisan support.
According to Poppe, the legislation puts in place permanent licensing regulations for septic system professionals working on individual sewage treatment systems with a flow of 10,000 gallons of water per day or less. Current law stating no other license is necessary for these individuals is set to expire in 2010; the new Poppe legislation removes the sunset date and makes this requirement permanent.
"By making this permanent, sub-surface sewage treatment professionals will continue to do the work they have done since the mid-1990's." said Poppe. "These designers have installed sewage treatment systems that work well, and we want to make sure they can continue to do so in the future."
