St. Paul, MN – State Representative Jeanne Poppe (DFL-Austin) was pleased to learn that every local project for District 27B made the final cut in the Capital Investment Bill signed into law on Monday.
The Governor used his line-item veto power to reduce the bonding bill to $716 million; no cuts were made to area projects.
"There were requests for close to $4 billion worth of projects this year," said Poppe. "Considering the magnitude of projects, we are very fortunate all of our requests were included."
One of the local projects signed into law was $1.5 million for roof replacement at Riverland Community College. Cedar River/Turtle Creek watershed districts will receive $2 million in Reinvest in Minnesota (RIM) funds for projects necessary to prevent floodwater from entering Austin, and Department of Natural Resources dollars were also allocated for flood mitigation.
"This bill is expected to create as many as 10 thousand badly-needed jobs," said Poppe. "By passing it so early in the session, we will be able to take full advantage of the upcoming construction season."
