St. Paul, MN – The vote on the House floor on Wednesday night moved the state bonding bill one more step forward, with Senate approval pending and then only the Governor's signature needed to make it law.
"Another hurdle cleared," said Rep. Jeanne Poppe (DFL-Austin). "Funding for our projects hasn't changed since the start so I'm feeling pretty comfortable that we'll be in the bill the Governor signs."
Poppe has made it one of her priorities since coming into office this term to introduce and advocate for funding for area projects. "I firmly believe that these projects are deserving and will benefit the entire state, not just our area," said Poppe.
"The Conference Committee and the Governor clearly agree."
All of Poppe's projects received full funding, for a total of almost $11 million. Flood hazard mitigation and flood relief received a total of $4 million, with money going to Austin, Albert Lea, Freeborn County and Blooming Prairie. The Riverland Community College Science lab will receive $5.4 million and the Shooting Star Trail is designated for $450,000.
In addition, Poppe's district was awarded a share of the $23 million included for CREP funding.
The Governor is expected to sign the bill yet this week. Although he has line-item veto power, Poppe is optimistic that the bill will not be changed.
