St. Paul, MN – State Representative Jeanne Poppe is pleased to announce the Mower County Historical Society has been awarded a Minnesota Historical Society grant in the amount of $5, 372. The money was awarded for flag conservation for the 4th Minnesota Volunteer Infantry, and is one of fifty-one projects statewide that was approved.
"I want to congratulate the Mower County Historical Society for their efforts in applying for this grant," said Rep. Poppe. "There was significant competition for limited funds, and many worthwhile projects were not approved.
This project was funded because of its historical military significance."
Applicants for the grants had the opportunity to present their needs in person as well as on paper. The Grants Review Committee, a subcommittee of the Historical Society's governing board, evaluated each of the applications, as well as the individual presentations. Those receiving grants must match their awards, but most will exceed this requirement.
