State Representative Jeanne Poppe was recently named 2007 "Legislative Children's Champion" by the Children's Defense Fund Action Council. Poppe received the award in recognition of her 100% voting record on legislation in support of investments in children, and for being a co-author of the Minnesota Children's Health Security Act (CHSA), which would ensure every child in Minnesota has access to health care coverage.
"The simple act of taking a sick child to the doctor is becoming more and more difficult for thousands of parents in Minnesota," said Rep. Poppe. "We need to continue our efforts to make sure every child gets the medical treatment they deserve."
It is estimated that over 70 thousand Minnesota children are currently not covered by any insurance plan. Last session, the state legislature began to address this issue by passing legislation that provided coverage for approximately 37 thousand additional children.
