First term DFL legislators push for passage of bonding bill

March 18, 2005

Speaker Sviggum
Minority Leader Entenza
Minnesota House of Representatives
St. Paul, MN 55155

Dear Speaker Sviggum and Representative Entenza,

As first-term lawmakers, we are proud to be here at the Capitol representing the residents of our districts. We worked hard throughout 2004 to meet with as many residents of our communities as we could. While different issues came to the forefront in different areas of the state, there was an underlying message that was consistent: Minnesotans told us to get our work done. They told us to work together to make good policy during the session, particularly getting both the bonding and budget bills passed during the regular session.

Since we arrived, we have worked hard to be productive and to bring a positive tone and discourse to the Capitol. As we approach the end of March, we are hopeful that this Legislature can move forward to complete last year's work by passing a bonding bill as soon as possible. We must move on to debating budget proposals very soon so that we can adjourn on time, having completed the work that Minnesotans hired us to do.

We urge each of you to do whatever you can to bring the conference committee's work to a close so that each body can pass a final version of the bonding bill before the end of March. This bonding bill will create jobs and fuel Minnesota's economic recovery, which can't happen soon enough.

There are many important issues that we must debate and decide here in St. Paul, but as first-term lawmakers we believe it makes sense to focus first on completing the bonding bill and then on taking up and passing a budget bill.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
