Colonel Kevin Sliwinski, Civil Air Patrol (CAP), announced recently the induction of four members of the House of Representatives into the Minnesota Civil Air Patrol Legislative Squadron, including Representative Jeanne Poppe (DFL –Austin). This brings the total number of Legislators in CAP to 80.
CAP was formed in December, 1941, by 150,000 private citizens who were concerned for the safety of the nation's coastline. Since then, CAP has continued to work for the freedom and protection of the United States. Under the jurisdiction of the Air Force, the squadrons have been credited with more than 500,000 flight hours, the rescue of hundreds of crash survivors, and even the sinking of enemy submarines during World War II.
Over 60 years later, CAP exists primarily to serve our country through the education and development of American youth; the performance of state, local and national missions; and public education on the importance of aerospace.
