ST. PAUL--State Representative Joyce Peppin, R-Rogers, has co-authored legislation that will permit Minnesotans to deduct contributions to their health savings accounts (HSAs) from their state tax return.
"My legislation brings Minnesota in-line with federal legislation that allows for income tax deductions for health savings accounts"” said Peppin. "It only makes sense that money families set aside for their health care needs should not be taxed."
The measure has passed the Health Policy and Finance Committee, as well as the Commerce and Financial Institutions Committee. It soon will be heard in Taxes.
If passed, Minnesotans would be able to claim HAS deductions on all income earned after December 31, 2003.
