ST. PAUL--With the school year well under way in the Northwest suburbs and preparations for the legislative session beginning in Saint Paul, State Representative Joyce Peppin is encouraging local students to take part in the Minnesota House of Representatives High School Page Program.
The program, now in its fourth decade, gives students an opportunity to engage state government and gain a firsthand understanding of the legislative process. “The High School Page Program offers future leaders a venue for developing their talents and learning alongside today’s leaders,” said Rep. Peppin.
In addition to experiencing the legislative process, students will also meet individually with legislators, participate in a mock committee session, and be introduced to various constitutional officers, members of the judiciary, lobbyists, and media.
“Students will learn about the many facets of politics and government, from how policy is made to how it is implemented and communicated to the public. I can’t think of a better way for young people to begin to think about how to solve our state’s problems and pave the way for their own future prosperity,” Peppin commented.
For more information and to apply, students can contact their school or visit http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/edprog/app.pdf.
“I encourage all interested students to apply to the High School Page Program and I look forward to our interaction. Every time I meet these young people at the Capitol, I have confidence in tomorrow because of the qualities they show today.”
