REP. PEPPIN ANNOUNCES LISTENING SESSIONS

By Joyce Peppin
State Representative
Assistant Minority Whip

Every May the scene in the House Chamber is nearly the same. Long floor debates on bills of nearly every topic. Multiple people rise to talk about the same thing. The debates can get long winded. People watch this at home and I often get the question “With all of the talking, do you politicians ever get anything done?”

It’s true that a lot of elected officials like to talk. But talking is not the most important part of our job. The most important part is listening to the people we represent. Over the years I have had many conversations with people from across our district. These conversations have led to many great ideas on how to improve the way the state works, or insight on some of the problems every day citizens see with current laws.

These meetings are also an opportunity for me to stay in touch with our area. Too many Representatives go to St. Paul in January and don’t go back to their district until May. They simply vote the party line, without considering what’s best for the people that elected them. I want to be in the district as much as possible so I can keep in touch with you and make sure I’m representing you in St. Paul.

I truly appreciate these conversations and I invite people to contact me with their questions. But I understand that it’s not easy for everyone to come to the Capitol. That’s why I make sure to hold regular listening sessions in our district, and this year is no different. I want to hear your thoughts and ideas on how to balance the budget. I want to know what we can do in St. Paul to improve our area.

So I invite you to come to one of the listening sessions I have scheduled. Please join me at the meeting that is most convenient for you. I will be in:

Rogers on Saturday, February 28 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Rogers Fire Dept. Building (Community Room), 21201 Memorial Drive
Greenfield on Saturday, February 28 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Greenfield Town Hall (Council Chambers), 6390 Town Hall Drive
Hanover on Saturday, February 28 from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at the Hanover City Hall, 11250 5th Street NE
Maple Grove on Saturday, March 7 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Maple Grove Community Center, 12951 Weaver Lake Rd
Dayton on Saturday, March 7 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Dayton City Hall 12260 South Diamond Lake Road
Corcoran on Saturday, March 7 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at the Corcoran City Hall 8200 County Road 116

Please come out and talk with me at one of these meetings. I want to listen to you and make sure you have the best representation possible in St. Paul.
