ST. PAUL – People Inc., a Twin Cities non-profit agency serving the needs of chronically homeless adults with mental illness, recently honored State Rep. Joyce Peppin (R-Rogers) for her legislative efforts to bolster People’s Inc.’s Safe Haven program for the mentally ill homeless.
Rep. Peppin helped secure legislation that would reimburse People Inc. for funds it privately raised to help move homeless people with mental illness into secure housing situations.
“The Safe Havens program is unique because it meets the immediate needs of many homeless with mental illnesses,” Peppin said. “It’s also successful because the people there worked hard to raise the private funds necessary. It’s good policy to assist programs like Safe Haven that have proven themselves.”
