ST. PAUL – State Representative Diane Loeffler, District 59A, received the Stewardship Award from the Minnesota Shade Tree Advisory Committee (MNSTAC) to the Department of Natural Resources.
Representatives of MNSTAC thanked Rep. Loeffler for being an exemplary speaker for the trees of Minnesota and advocating for policies in support of them.
Accepting her award, Rep. Loeffler said, "For several years I've authored bills in support of increased funding for local programs to deal with diseased trees and their replacement." She added, "This year I passed legislation directing the development of a Forest Protection Plan to better prepare the state to respond to new tree pests that threaten to kill tens of thousands of our trees, such as the Emerald Ash Borer. It has already destroyed hundreds of thousands of trees in eastern states and could be much more costly and destructive than Dutch Elm Disease."
