While the start of the 2006 Legislative Session is still several months away, preparations have already begun. This includes selection of the High School Pages who will spend a week at the Capitol assisting legislators on the House floor and learning about state government first-hand.
The Minnesota House High School Page Program is open to students in their junior year. Pages will meet individually with state representatives, assist members during legislative session, participate in mock committee debates designed to inspire students to think critically about the issues facing our state, and meet with constitutional officers, members of the judiciary, lobbyists and members of the media.
I encourage all interested students to apply. The deadline is December 15, and if admitted, students will be assigned to participate for one week between March and May 2006 with other high schoolers from across the state. Applications are available online, at http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/edprog/introletter.asp or by calling the House Educational Programs Office at (651) 296-7452. If you have any questions, please contact me at (651) 296-1188, or by e-mail at rep.leon.lillie@house.mn.
Sincerely,
Leon Lillie
