Rep. Lillie and Legislators Tour Schroeder Plant in Maplewood

State Representative Leon Lillie and a group of Minnesota Legislators toured the Schroeder Company dairy processing plant September 28 as part of a day-long Dairy Education Tour sponsored by the Minnesota Milk Producers Association and the Minnesota Agri-Growth Council.

"I was very impressed by what I learned," Rep. Lillie commented. "It's amazing the variety of products that are produced right here in Maplewood – products our families use every day. Coming from a family-owned business, I was impressed to see that the Schroeder family is continuing to grow their business after four generations."

German immigrant Henry Schroeder established Schroeder milk in 1884 at its location on Rice Street just north of St. Paul. Today, the company is still owned and operated by the Schroeder family and produces millions of gallons of milk each year, along with specialty dairy products like hollandaise sauce and crème brulee that are shipped as far away as Korea.

The Dairy Education Tour introduced state legislators and staff to Minnesota's dairy industry, and included tours of dairy farms as well as the Maplewood processing plant. Dairy is Minnesota's second-largest livestock sector, although the state's dairy farmers have faced challenges in recent years. Processing plants like Schroeder are vital to Minnesota's dairy industry.
