REP. LILLIE JOINS BIPARTISAN LEGISLATIVE CAUCUS TO ADDRESS MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES

In an effort to improve the delivery of mental health treatment and encourage innovation and efficiency, State Representative Lillie, of North Saint Paul, became one of the charter members of the bipartisan Mental Health Caucus, a first-in-the-nation effort to draw attention to mental health issues as they affect criminal justice, employment, education, health care, and legislative policy.
"Health care is one of the most important issues before the legislature this year, and we want to make sure that mental health issues are present in this discussion," Rep. Lillie said. "In particular, given the current budget situation, I want to make sure that we give enough support to treating mental health problems. Investments in this area can save us tremendously in spending on other areas, such as prisons and health care.”
The group is made up of 16 Senators and 40 Representatives from both the DFL and Republican parties. The group will focus on four key areas: the criminal justice system, employment, children's health and the results of a Minnesota Mental Health Action Group study initiated by the Governor and the Citizens League.
Rep. Lillie said that he wants to emphasize innovative programs and treatments, as well as improving the delivery of mental health services that we know work.
