Residents of Maplewood Testify With Rep. Lillie On Behalf of Bruentrup Farm

A group of advocates for Bruentrup Heritage Farm came to testify with Representative Leon Lillie on January 31st. They spoke in favor of including $150,000 in the state bonding bill in order to make significant improvements to the property. This would include installing a sprinkler system in the barn to bring it up to code in order to fully utilize the structure. Bruentrup Heritage Farm is the last remaining complete set of farm buildings in Ramsey County. The project at the farm is one of several that was recommended by the DFL Caucus for inclusion in the state bonding bill, which the House will consider later this month.

The Bruentrup Farm was established in 1891 on 40 acres that were given to the family as a wedding gift. In 1999 the Bruentrup family donated the farm buildings to the Maplewood Historical Society, which were then moved to their current site. It is used as a historic, educational, recreational, and arts center with tours, demonstrations, and exhibits.
