Rep. Leon Lillie (D-N. St. Paul) was awarded the 2010 Arts All Star Award at Arts Advocacy Day at the Minnesota State Capitol on March 2, 2010.
"I was very honored this year to receive the arts award from Minnesota Citizens for the Arts. Last session, the Legislature started the 25-year process of spending the legacy money that voters approved, and much of that money is going to go to arts programs around Minnesota. This is personally very exciting for me, as I think that art adds so much to the quality of life for Minnesotans, and that is certainly true in my own district." Rep. Lillie said.
Over 500 arts advocates attended the day on the hill, where they spoke to legislators about the importance of the arts to their hometowns and to the state’s economy. Minnesota Citizens for the Arts gives out only a few Arts All Star Awards each year to legislators who have shown significant support for the arts in their districts, and who have been actively helpful with MCA’s legislative agenda to ensure access to the arts for all Minnesotans.
Rep. Lillie received his Arts All Star Award from MCA representative Larry Redmond, and MCA Board Member James Wafler, who were accompanied by representatives of the arts from the area.
“Rep. Lillie has been a friend to the arts for many years," said Sheila Smith, Executive Director of Minnesota Citizens for the Arts. “We appreciate the hard work he is doing at the legislature.”
