ST. PAUL – Leon Lillie, an airline employee from North Saint Paul, was officially sworn in as the District 55A State Representative on Wednesday at the Capitol. He is returning to serve his second term in the Minnesota House of Representatives. After two years of dedicated service, Rep. Lillie brings valuable legislative experience to the table for this 85th legislative session.
“I’d like to again thank the voters of District 55A for extending me the privilege of returning to represent the citizens of North Saint Paul at the Capitol," Lillie said. “As I took the oath of office for the second time, I was reminded again of the great honor and responsibility of public service. I am eager to resume this service."
Among Lillie's top priorities for this session are reducing property taxes, providing a sufficient budget for Minnesota schools, improving transportation, and working to enact policies aimed at protecting our environment.
“These are pressing issues facing our state," he said. "If we can move past partisan politics in the legislature and work together to find common ground, we can achieve a great deal for Minnesota." Renewing his promise to carry out his legislative duties in a bipartisan fashion, Lillie pledges to work diligently to move Minnesota forward and make state government work in the interest of all Minnesotans.
Rep. Lillie will be serving as Vice-Chair of the Commerce and Labor Committee and as a member of the Public Safety and Civil Justice Committee, Rules and Legislative Administration Committee, and Public Safety Finance Division. However, Lillie encourages residents of District 55A to contact him with concerns regarding any issue of state government.
“I’m here to make sure that the needs of our community are heard and addressed accordingly in the business of the state,” he said. “Citizen involvement in the legislative process is extremely important and I encourage all of my constituents to contact me with concerns and important issues they would like addressed.”
