ST. PAUL — Today, the Minnesota House of Representatives passed a $566 million bonding bill. The bill contains $8.7 million in funding for the Rochester Community and Technical College Workforce Center, and $44 million to begin renovations on the Minnesota State Capitol, but does not contain any specific funding for the Mayo Civic Center expansion.
State Representative Tina Liebling (DFL – Rochester) voted in favor of the bill and released the following statement:
“It’s disappointing that this bill does not contain funding for the Mayo Civic Center, but it’s essential for us to pass a bonding bill; it is the major work of the session. State investment in public infrastructure is crucial for economic growth and while this bill is lacking in several areas, it will help put people back to work and provide long-term economic benefits for our state.
“I’m also pleased that this bill contains funding to begin the restoration of the State Capitol. Our beautiful Capitol building is literally crumbling and falling apart. This funding is long overdue.
“By voting to pass this bill today, we are sending it to the Senate, where I am hopeful Senate Majority Leader Senjem can secure funding for Rochester’s key economic development project, the Mayo Civic Center."
