The Minnesota Department of Finance released the November state budget forecast projecting a $373 million deficit for fiscal year 2008-09. In response to the news, House DFL Assistant Majority Leader Tina Liebling released the following statement:
"This disappointing news makes it very clear the Governor's approach to budgeting isn't working for Minnesota. We continue to stumble from one budget crisis to the next, and our state's economic outlook continues to lag behind national indicators."
"We need to take aggressive steps to stimulate the state's economy by quickly passing a bonding bill and a transportation bill that will create jobs and strengthen the infrastructure we depend on"
"It's unfortunate that this past session the Governor vetoed bills that would have provided exactly what state economist Tom Stinson said we needed - more jobs."
