Free Money Awaits Students at the Capitol on April 12
Rep. Tina Liebling Encourages Schools to Participate in Kickoff for New Minnesota State Quarter
ST. PAUL, MN -- Free money will be available to school age Minnesota students at the State Capitol on April 12. It's not a lot, but commemorating the release of the Minnesota State Quarter, the United State Mint will be giving away a free new Minnesota State Quarter to each school-age student who comes to the State Capitol kickoff. The Minnesota Quarter Dollar Commission is sponsoring the event, and State Rep. Tina Liebling is inviting Rochester students to join her there.
Organizers hope to have 10,000 students participate in the kickoff event. A variety of activities are planned for the day, including a quarter exchange for those trying to collect the entire 50-state set, Minnesota-flavored entertainment, food, educational opportunities and a little about state history. Distribution of the new quarters will begin at 11:25 a.m.
Liebling say the Minnesota Quarter Dollar Commission is hoping the event will be seen as a Minnesota history field trip opportunity. She says the Commission hopes business communities around the state will help local schools cover transportation costs to assure a big turnout.
The design of the quarter can be seen at the Minnesota Quarter Dollar Commission web site: (www.quarter.state.mn.us).
